Bayshore Heritage
The Bayshore Heritage Scenic Byway stretches about 122 miles from the Deleware Bay in Mannington Township all the way to Cape May at New Jersey's southernmost tip. As you make your way down the Byway, you'll see stunning views of the Deleware River and Bay, farmland, and some historical architecture and wildlife. Also, be sure to stop by any one of the historic villages to gain some perspective on the area's history. There are several attractions to check out along this route, including the Fort Mott State Park, Bayshore Center at Bivalve, East Point Lighthouse, and Cape May Lighthouse.
Kittatinny Ridge Loop
You can start this route by getting on the Delaware Water Gap, and from here, you are in for a scenic ride that will take you for a clockwise loop heading toward Newton. Along the way, you will travel along Old Mine Road, a narrow and winding road that will take you along the Deleware River and through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. There are several stop-offs along the way for you to spend part of your vacation, including Milbrook Village, which will give you views of Kittatinny Ridge and Turtle Beach. The total distance is 75 miles, and we highly recommend checking out Mt. Tammany and Stokes State Park along the way.
Palisades Scenic Byway
You won't find a more perfect view of the Hudson River and the New York City skyline than from the Palisades Scenic Byway! The Palisades Scenic Byway includes a ten-mile-long stretch along the Palisades Interstate Parkway and another 8.5 miles on Henry Hudson Drive. Along the way, you will find many places to hike and bike, including Palisades Interstate Park, Fort Lee Historic Park, and the Tenafly Nature Center.
Pine Barrens
You will see one of the United States' most unique ecosystems along this route! The Pine Barrens Scenic Byway is an adventurous 130-mile adventure divided into three separate routes. You will find several notable wildlife attractions along this route, including the Edwin B. Forsythe and Cape May National Wildlife Refuges and the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve. In addition, there are ten different state wildlife areas, three state parks, and five county parks. So make sure you bring a picnic lunch and spend the day!
Batsto Wilderness Route
This 21-mile route is perfect for a relaxing road trip during the summer. Along this route, you're unlikely to see any other cars along the way as you drive from Gretna to Hammonton along route 542. The diamond in the rough here is Batsto Village, a preserved Pine Barrens village composed of 33 historic buildings and structures, including the Batsto Mansion, gristmill, sawmill, general store, and post office. Along the way, be sure to also stop by the Swan Bay Wildlife Management Area or have lunch by the Wading River.
