How to Plan an Epic Summer Road Trip

Are you and your family preparing for an epic road trip that will be remembered for a lifetime? Your kids and you will experience so many great things, and share in many laughs along the way. There's a couple things you need to take care of before you hit the road, and a few to remember while you're on the road. Here's a few tips for your planning ideas.

Decide How Far You Want to Travel
Depending on how much time your boss allowed you to take off, will determine how far you cruise across the country. There are so many great National and state parks that make a great final destination, with many great tourist pit stops and things to see along the way.

Get Your Car Looked at Before You Go
Make sure that your vehicle is top notch for the long stretch of pavement up ahead. You need to have dependable tires, brakes, a tune-up, an oil change, and good fluid levels. This is a lot of work you should leave to the experts while you're busy packing and preparing.

Plan Pit Stops Along the Way
This is an epic road trip of a lifetime for you and your family, not a race to see how quickly you can reach your destination. Plan great things to stop and see along the way that will keep you and your kid's sanity in check, because of the many hours in the car.

Choose an Epic Music List
What's a great trip without some great tunes and classic hits? Your kids don't know what good music is and are in for a treat. Or maybe not, since Justin Bieber is the only thing they know to be good music. Your music list will make the miles melt away quicker as you sing along.

Pack Healthy Snacks and Stay Hydrated
Make sure that you pack plenty of snacks like jerky, beef stix, trail mix, granola bars, fruit snacks, and many other great road trip worthy snacks. Pack plenty of water, Gatorade, and other hydrating drinks, especially if you're traveling through hot and dry regions.

Don't Forget to Stop and Let the Kids Stretch Their Legs
Allow plenty of time for breaks, allowing the kids to get some of their restlessness out. At a rest stop, play catch or kick a ball around with them. They will remember that pit stop for years because you spent time with them instead of jumping back in the car quickly and spending more hours in the car.

Make as Many Memories as Possible
Making memories sometimes happens on accident, and those are the best. Sometimes you can make memories by doing something with your family that you have never done before. If there's an underground cave, make the stop and explore it. If there's horseback riding or white water rafting that sparks your family's interest, make it happen. While you might be a little tighter on cash afterwards, irreplaceable memories will be made for you and your kids.

These are a few ways to make your epic trip a more memorable one. What other ways can you plan for an epic summer road trip?Â
