2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio vs 2018 Jaguar F-Pace near Bronx, NY

Luxury SUVs have seen a fresh, modern revitalization in exterior looks in recent years, showing off smooth contours and sleek appeal in their silhouettes and molded lines.  The 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Jaguar F-Pace are sporty and dynamic, using pristine materials on their interiors to boost the experience of the drive, but which leads in providing the best power and technology to really ride in style?  How does unique Italian flair compare to the well known British luxury engineering?

2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Power & Handling

Two engines come in the Stelvio's powerhouse, both offered in standard all-wheel drive with a ZF eight-speed shiftable automatic transmission.  Most models possess the impressive 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that powers you forward with a satisfying 280 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque.  The EPA rates this engine at 22/28 mpg.  Specifically for the Quadrifoglio trim, the 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 is specially designed for this tim trim's high-performance design.  It outputs 505 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, and can speed from zero-to-sixty in just 3.6 seconds.  Truly the fastest SUV, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio was able to complete the Nurburgring racetrack in a record braking 7:51.7 seconds.  These powertrains are capable of towing 3,000 pounds, giving plenty of functionality hand-in-hand with Alfa Romeo's Italian-specialty luxury features.

2018 Jaguar F-Pace Power & Handling

Across its seven trim types, the F-Pace offers a total of four engines in select models.  The standard non-S powertrain comes with the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder that provides 247 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, lagging behind the Stelvio.  Midlevel trims offer either a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel inline four-cylinder (180 hp / 318 lb-ft of torque) or a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine (340 hp / 332 lb-ft of torque).  The best of the best for the F-Pace comes in the high-end 3.0-liter supercharged V6, matching the Stelvio Quadrifoglio's price tag but not coming close to its performance.  This V6 instead provides only 380 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, absolutely being left in the dust with a zero-to-sixty in 6.6 seconds.  All engines come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and AWD.

2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Features & Design

The Stelvio is available in three variants, the base, the luxury-oriented Ti, and the high-performance Quadrifoglio.  It's an appealing five-passenger, well crafted with quality materials such as premium leather and available aluminum or real wood trim.  Standard features include Brembo brakes, xenon headlights, roof rails, a power liftgate, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient interior lighting, great ten-way power adjustable front seats, and adjustable drive modes.  Technology features include a 6.5- or huge 8.8-inch touchscreen multimedia control that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, two front USBs (with two charge-only rear USB ports), Bluetooth, HD radio, and navigation.  An available Sport package enhances wheels (18- to 19-inches in base, 19- to 20-inches with the Ti), unique interior and exterior design cues, and stiffer suspension tuning.

2018 Jaguar F-Pace Features & Design

Less is more when it comes to this comparison.  While the F-Pace offers more trim levels, the trickle of features plus the increasing price might feel like a nickel-and-diming when compared to the comprehensive trims and packages of the Stelvio.  Alfa Romeo builds their models as a simple equation of wanted feature add-ons, making it clear what you're getting for how much.  The base F-Pace comes with the same features as the Stelvio but for the exception of having simulated leather upholstery and possessing an eight-inch touchscreen.  It's lacking the standard parking assistance and available adaptive cruise control that's found within the Stelvio.  It's over five inches wider than the Stelvio as well, making driving feel more wagon-like compared to the sporty maneuverability of the Stelvio.  There's very limited exterior colors to choose from (black, white, grey, or blue), making the exterior looks more mainstream compared to some of the bolder choices you have with the Alfa Romeo's selection.

Stelvio offers a comprehensive method of building the car you want, hardly limiting you to preset included standards with the array of trims and additional packages you have to consider with the F-Pace.  While Jaguar has the ability to pull ahead in power in its high-mid tier trims, the Alfa Romeo ultimately beats the power contest with their performance-specialized Quadrifoglio by a long shot.  Greater exterior and interior style options also make this car more of a standout from the crowd compared to the Jaguar's basic, lackluster selection.  Better in materials, options, and ultimate performance, the Stelvio is definitely an SUV to consider.  You can click below to read further on the specific offerings of the base Stelvio and of the Stelvio Quadrifoglio!
